Hey  there!

I’m Lisa, and I’m so happy to meet you!

I’m an obsessive learner, recovering perfectionist, passionate traveler, INTJ, English breakfast tea lover, perpetual dreamer, a cappella singer, overachiever, raw cookie dough enthusiast, and a definite Ravenclaw.

And most importantly? I'm a woman on a mission to help you feel more joy in your work.

The reason I’m on this mission is because if your job qualifies as someone else’s “dream job” — but not your own — you are spending way too many hours every week at work to not make a change to find more fun and fulfillment.

But my journey didn’t start out as all kittens and rainbows…

My path started back in college...

I was living in New York City and trying to take advantage of every single opportunity the city had to offer. By the time I graduated, I had held 8 separate internships, 7 different paid jobs, and had been both a columnist and photographer for the school newspaper. (Straight A overachiever, anyone?) I loved getting to “try out” different jobs and industries, and saw deep inside the amazing, sexy brands where I worked: CBS, Teen Vogue, the American Cancer Society, and Seventeen Magazine.

After I graduated, I entered the working world at an education-based nonprofit. My goal was to try to align my passion and my vocation, so the nonprofit world sounded perfect for that.

(Suffice it to say: I had a lot to learn.)

As I quickly realized, my hunger for growth and mentoring was insatiable, and I wasn’t going to get the growth or support I craved in that world, so I made a pivot into communication strategy consulting in the private sector and climbed my way right up the corporate ladder.

I was damn good at branding and marketing work, but kept feeling in my gut that being a consultant was completely soulless for me. I’d spend my days churning through tactical plans for client after client, hardly even getting a minute to breathe or go deep into their mission and purpose. (Have you ever had that feeling?) But I got a high from the positive feedback, so I put in the hours and rose quickly even though I felt I had to keep any hint of dissatisfaction hidden from my bosses. I was trying so hard to make my job work, but I was really craving work (and a whole life) that actually felt like me.

I started by first searching everywhere within my company to find that work, throwing myself into all kinds of side projects. As a personal passion project, I revived and ran an internal employee happiness and retention initiative. Then, I served as a regional driver for the company-wide women’s empowerment program. (It was in this gig that I discovered my passion for coaching!)

But I still couldn’t find the Goldilocks “just right” role for me.

My regular, day-to-day tasks and responsibilities continued to beat me into submission.

When my boss asked me to work on Thanksgiving — or worse, told me to jump back into work right after I’d told her, in tears, that my grandfather died — I could feel a permanent rage blackout coming on.

Something inside of me said, “There has GOT to be a better way.”

…but instead of quitting right then and there, I plotted ways to escape thinking about work by pouring my energy and savings into amazing international vacations.

In 2011, I went to Japan in the spring, and then England in the summer. In 2013, I took 19 days off to explore Italy all by myself (and no, I am definitely not fluent in Italian — Google Translate is a lifesaver!). And in 2014, I took 24 days off to see Argentina and Brazil, and attend the World Cup.

That year, it hit me: while travel was completely amazing (and something I still do!), I was desperate to know if I could design my work life so I didn’t want to escape.

It definitely wasn’t just me. It seemed like almost every one of my friends was going through a period of crisis, wondering “Is this all there is? Will the next 30 years in the working world feel like this?”

All of a sudden, I had to crack this career + meaning question to prevent people (like me, my friends, and you!) from experiencing chronic anxiety, stress, and frustration around work. I wanted to help people manage their careers as easily and peacefully as possible.

My path still had some twists and turns… because I definitely didn’t start out thinking I’d be a coach.

At first, I took the GRE and applied to grad school to get my master’s in clinical mental health counseling with the goal of becoming a therapist. I put down my deposit, told allll my friends about my plan…and then withdrew from the program 24 hours before the first class started. (Talk about a tail-between-your-legs moment.)

My intuition was telling me that becoming a counselor was directionally correct…
but it wasn’t quite the “fit” I was looking for.
I knew I wanted to help people, but I didn’t exactly know how.

I knew I wanted to help people, but I didn’t exactly know how.

It took a ton of introspection, reflection, and working with my therapist, friends, family, and my own career coach to get clear on exactly how I wanted to serve through my work. And, as I looked at my experience working in 18 different roles before the age of 30, I realized I’d learned tons of lessons about how to find work that fits that I could teach others. You’d probably rather avoid making painful, costly mistakes, right? (Let’s not have you working 60-hour weeks, getting a grad degree you don’t need, or moving to a new company just to realize that you still don’t love your job.)

So after spending nearly a decade in digital marketing and becoming an expert in branding and behavior change, I made the pivot to launch my career change coaching business in 2015 so I could tap into my strengths and my calling: working 1-on-1 to help you figure out what kind of juicy, fulfilling work fits you.

Over the past few years, I’ve trained with some of the best (like Jenny Blake and her Pivot Method, Danielle LaPorte’s Fire Starter Sessions, and the World Coaches Institute). I’ve apprenticed with the top career coaches in the world so I can do the best possible work with — and for — you.

I’ve been officially running my coaching business for almost 4 years, and in that time I’ve helped almost 500 individuals move into more satisfying, yummy careers.

What you really need to know about me is…

  • I believe it’s not just possible but imperative to be happy in your work (not just “fine!”)
  • I believe stress should not be touted as a badge of honor.
  • I believe we each have unique gifts that the economy can recognize and reward.
  • And I believe we need to give ourselves permission to take risks in our careers — because smart leaps can lead to big rewards.

I don’t care whether you’re 34 or 64 years old: it is NOT too late to make a shift into doing work you actually want to do!

I coach people who want to stop outsourcing their own lives — and start actually living them.

The people I work with are craving the ability to live their most authentic, whole lives — and aren’t willing to compromise on happiness.

My clients are ready to embrace the person inside who dreams, who isn’t afraid, who knows they’re meant for bigger and more fantastic things.

Your inner professional badass, if you will.

“Working with Lisa has helped tremendously. I’ve never been more full of life and excited for this new chapter.”

Jason, St. Louis, MO

Hearing that kind of feedback is why I do what I do — I looooove helping people turn their dreams into their reality! (Speaking of dreams, click here to read some recent stories from my amazing clients.

3 things most people don’t know about me

  • I am an introvert! (For those of you who love personality assessments as much as I do, I’m a total textbook INTJ.) I am also definitely a Ravenclaw.
  • Because “gym” sometimes feels like a 4-letter word to me, I do yoga, pilates, and barre classes to keep myself healthy, fit and sane. (And, confession time: sometimes I also watch choreography videos on YouTube and try to teach myself the moves in my living room.)

I am so, so grateful for every client who’s part of my world.

Together, we’re making the world a better place because, each year, a portion of my income goes to support organizations that are creating a more just and peaceful world. In the last two years, I’ve supported the ACLUBest Buddies Internationalcharity: waterDonorsChoose.orgDress for SuccessHeifer InternationalWorldbuildersRAICESTogether RisingAlzheimers AssociationWE CharityDogs on the Run Hoboken (started by my client!) and International Rescue Committee. (And, I solicit suggestions from my clients for organizations to support each year. Let me know the charities you’re a fan of!)

I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for you.
