Real Career Clarity Client Results

Olivia is now working in a job she’s thrilled about: leadership recruitment at a tech company you know in Austin, TX. When we met, she’d been unemployed for a year after leaving the most successful role she’d ever had (big budget sales at another famous internet company) because she was burned-the-heck-out and felt like her work was missing soul. From working together, she was able to battle her perfectionism, find new purpose and direction in her career, and secure a job that truly lights her up.

“Success got to my head, and it almost became my identity. It consumed me. I focused on the wrong things, and I thought, ‘If this is all there is, there’s something missing. I should be feeling joyous and happy with my achievements, and that’s not the case.’ I was struggling with putting the puzzle pieces together. Working with Lisa was so instrumental in helping me slow down in the process and start to extrapolate all these different elements to figure out what I really wanted moving forward in my life and my career. We really broke things down, and she knew I wanted more out of life.

“You think you can do this alone — ‘this is my problem so I have to fix it.’ But you don’t know where to start, because it’s a big, scary question. There’s no shame in doing this and getting the resources you need.”

Tanya, London, U.k.

Director of
Corporate Social Responsibility

Tanya, an American ex-pat living in the U.K., realized that she wanted a job where she’d have autonomy, authority, and the flexibility to go to a yoga class at 10am with coworkers who also loved a weekday down-dog. She’d had an incredibly successful career working for entertainment and media brands in the U.S., but found herself in London without a network or a community and wanting to do work that felt more soulful. From working together and figuring out what the British chapter of her career could look like — and getting her to 100% believe in and commit to pursuing her big, scary dream company — she landed a role first running European events for Wanderlust (where she got to take yoga classes every day as market research), and then used that as a springboard into a flexible, autonomous role directing corporate responsibility at a global media company.

Kevin in Milwaukee reached out to work together after getting his career to “really good” on his own, but wanting to take it to “great.” He’d worked his way up the corporate ladder within his tech company and was leading a team, but was still mired in the less fun day-to-day work. Plus, he had a secret dream: to make the leap into product management rather than technical development and support operations. From working together, we established what “Hell Yes” would look like and feel like, and created his strategic networking plan to allow job offers to come to him. Here’s what he said about our work:

kevin, Milwaukee, WI

technical Development and product director

“What you said stuck with me. I went all in for the hell yes and got it! Was between the two coworkers each offering me a job and I countered both with a different job and then got one! I’m all accepted and starting to transition to my new role. And it’s even a bit more money which was a nice thing I wasn’t looking for. I did turn down a third because there was travel (the product manager job) and while the job would have been nice the travel kept it from being a hell yes. The job I ended up getting is a new layer we are creating (per industry best practices) that’s between development and product. So I might actually get the best of both worlds!! Amazing. I enjoyed our sessions and wouldn’t be here without them.”

Laura previously worked in sustainability consulting, but after over 8 years at the same company she had lost her passion. (This happens to SO many ambitious people!) She craved a new and engaging challenge at a progressive company that invested in their people and gave her the flexibility to work from home anytime her 2-year old needed her. She was able to combine her past experiences to propel her into a new role as a product manager for a company focused on helping everyone better understand themselves and how to succeeded at work  – all while getting a $15,000 pay bump in addition to an incredible benefits package.

"Lisa is an incredibly warm and caring person who I felt like I could trust right away. I was able to be very vulnerable (something I don’t love to do) on numerous occasions...I left each conversation feeling like I was moving in the right direction and armed with homework to keep deep diving on me and what I want. I’m not sure where I’d be if I didn’t have your support along the way."

rachel, denver, CO

Content Marketing Manager

After getting her MBA and moving to San Francisco for a job running public relations for a consumer review aggregation website (you probably have their app on your phone!), Rachel was burned out and didn’t know where to go next. From working together, she gained clarity on her love of writing and content strategy (not PR), her desire to create a community gathering space for coworking and local events, started an Etsy shop to sell her handmade jewelry, and created a financial plan to take the courageous step to begin a multi-month sabbatical from work, and recently started a dream gig as a content marketing manager at IDEO. Read more about Rachel’s Career Clarity experience in this interview with Medium.

Mike, a parent and green building engineer, was seeking a new and more expansive job while also moving from Portland to Seattle to support his wife’s career. Together, we  identified target companies, put together his relationship building strategy, and positioned himself for leveraged negotiation. How did it turn out? He got a significant pay increase at a company that supports work-life balance, works with a great team that uses data to help schools fight climate change, and has the flexibility to be present with his new daughter.

“Lisa has done an amazing job bringing my A+ game out from me, and I feel my big successes so far have gone further because of her guidance. 2 months to two job offers at great companies is a solid success.”

Rebecca was a passionate attorney who successfully transitioned from being on the hill in Washington D.C. to working at an environmental litigation firm in Northern California. She wrestled with the decision to quit and move for months, and after she committed, had an amazing road trip across the country was hired on with a raise before even passing the bar in California.

“Lisa was amazing! …It was helpful working with her because she helped me think about structuring how to talk to people about what I’m looking for and moving forward. There were moments when I would avoid an issue in my search and she would call me out and ask what I thought I was protecting by avoiding it.

I would have never thought before our coaching sessions that radical authenticity could take me this far! My presumption had always been to mold myself to what I thought people were looking for, and now that I’ve gone through it being authentic and honest, it’s nothing short of liberating.”

Jillian was a special education teacher working in Chicago. She loved the students she taught every day but kept feeling like there was something more calling to her. (You know the one: that not-so-subtle whisper that keeps you up at night.) Through our work together, Jillian discovered how powerful and creative she truly is, built a local network of movers and shakers in adolescent development work, started a podcast on progressive education, and moved into a program management role with a nonprofit full of “shameless idealists.” She was able to leverage her background in education to step into her true passion of impacting at scale and making it easier for each of us to do good every day.

Jillian, chicago, IL

Program Manager

“Working with Lisa was one of the best career investments I have ever made. Prior to our work together, I felt as though I was being pulled in a million directions without a clue of the direction I actually wanted to forge for myself. Lisa helped me clarify the things I was looking for in work and life, identify my “north stars” and values that truly mattered to me, and prepare to launch into a new, amazing career in a field I am truly excited about! Throughout the process, Lisa’s relentless optimism and encouragement helped me lean into my strengths rather than focus on weaknesses. In addition, Lisa’s guidance helped me overcome my fears, stay accountable to my personal and professional growth, and ultimately find a career that aligns my passions, strengths, lifestyle, and goals. I would 100% recommend working with Lisa!”

Jason, ohio

business Development
Project Lead

After working together, Jason found that the path to more career fulfillment involved being an intrapreneur and making a joyful transition from one role to another without even needing to leave his company. (He secretly plans on changing that “intra” to “entre” someday) After previous career chapters in education and engineering, he moved from a position as a team lead and program manager to a new business project driver, which lets him develop the skills and knowledge he needs to go out on his own one day, on his current employer’s dime with their full knowledge and support!

Sarah, a Californian multipotentialite, pivoted from working at a small business with her husband into a cross-functional role as the operations manager for a children’s advocacy nonprofit. She was seeking out a workplace that allowed her to manage stress well due to a chronic health condition, while also feeling that she was making a difference in people’s lives.

“Lisa has been just amazing. She was invaluable to this whole process for me and without her I don’t think I’d have had the confidence to proceed when I was stuck and therefore would not have had the success that I’ve had. I can’t tell you how much your support and encouragement means to me! You help me see myself in another light, a more confident light. Truly such a gift!”

Kristie, a budding communications and content strategist in Washington D.C., reached out to me when her workplace environment had turned toxic and she was looking for a change that aligned more with her values. (No more real-life Regina George bosses, thank you very much.) After working together, she left her job as a blogger to take the reins as the web content director for a nonprofit. Then, when that role turned out to be not as advertised, we got her into an even better workplace that aligned with her lifestyle needs — and she gained the courage to start getting paid for freelance writing, too! Here’s how she viewed her experience:

“As a young professional living in a high-pressure city, I found Lisa’s coaching to be both inspiring and refreshing. Lisa will push you to be your best while encouraging you to find what you love about work—and how to make your own life and the lives of others better through that. She never tells you what to do; she listens and asks really great questions to help you figure that out for yourself. Every time I’ve met with her, she’s gone far above and beyond what I was expecting."

C.J. was a Brit and a marketing expert who was dissatisfied in her work. She was ready to change gears and try out a new career, but wasn’t sure how. We helped her map her strengths and transition from marketing to product management. Here’s what she said about working together:

C.J., London, UK

Technical Product Manager

“When I met Lisa, I was looking through job posts as I found my work environment unsatisfying. I didn’t know what to apply to or which area I wanted.

The first thing Lisa did was help me get clarity. Suddenly I knew why certain words leapt out in a posting, and what environment I wanted. Right away, I could rule out 80% of those posts I had been saving. I felt focused and after researching more into the job posts, I revised my CV to showcase the skills they were looking for – which got me into interviews and then a brand new role – in a team that suits me to a tee.

I got more out of it than just a new job. Lisa helped me see where I was unnecessarily doubting myself and how opportunities outside of my 9-5 were drawing on the skills I loved using. I have a bolder vision going forward for how I can blend these skills with my side interests rather than telling myself I have to choose.”

Kevin was a management consultant who had hit an earnings and growth ceiling. After just a few sessions together, he had serious breakthroughs:

Kevin, austin, tx

management consultant

“From working with Lisa, I was blessed to:

  • Find a culture that fostered what I wanted – a ‘freedom to fail’ attitude, innovation, and revolutionary – at an exciting start-up.
  • Receive a 45% raise from the salary I made at my old company.
  • Find myself on the most optimal team size for me – 2-3 people.
  • Find myself at a company supporting completely flexible work schedules.
  • Find myself at a company with domestic and international travel opportunities.

Personally speaking, I am much more engaged and thorough with the work I am doing. As Lisa said, a happier you is a more productive you. I can’t thank Lisa enough for learning to understand who I am, and helping me map what my ideal legacy would look like.”

Sarah needed help creating momentum, focus, and clarity in her business as an entrepreneur. We talked through strategies to prioritize and execute on the most important business and happiness drivers in her life.

sarah, fayetteville, ga

Actress and entrepreneur

“As an artist and entrepreneur, I juggle multiple projects and business lines every day. It’s easy to get lost in the hustle and jump from project to project (or fire to fire) with nothing left but a sense of overwhelm. Lisa helped me sort through all my activities and strategically focus my time and energy on those that mattered most to not only my financial bottom line but also my passion bottom line. She broke everything down into small, doable steps until we found a plan that worked. If you’re feeling stuck or need help getting yourself from point A to point B, I highly recommend working with her. And don’t wait – do it now! Your future self will thank you.”

Nicole made the courageous decision to move from Washington, DC to San Diego, CA as a part of our work together, as well as find a brand new 6-figure communication leadership job:

“Lisa has years of experience helping people navigate tricky career situations and she’s knowledgeable about helping you find a way to create happiness in your job and/or maximize your opportunities. I am sure I will turn to Lisa at many more junctures in my career and I would encourage anyone seeking a career coach to help them figure out their path (and hold you accountable for taking steps towards it) to work with Lisa!” – Nicole, San Diego, CA

Erin reached out to get more balance in her life. With the business she and her husband ran together, she had little time left for friends and fun:

erin, fort lauderdale, fl

Professional photographer
and entrepreneur

“When I approached Lisa about doing coaching, I was feeling torn between multiple interests. I am a professional photographer and felt I had little control over my day-to-day schedule or the work I was doing.

One major benefit I’ve already experienced is working smarter. That means I try to spend less time on any given activity, but achieve the same amount or more productivity. I am able to do this because I now realize it leads to having more free time to use towards my passion projects. It’s helpful to have a clear vision that I can share with anyone who does not know my work and wants to know what I do. It’s also led to saying no to things I’m not truly excited to attend because I realize it will give me more time for the things I love.

I’ve reaped great rewards from working with Lisa. She has a great gift of teasing out struggle, motive, and anything that may be holding someone back. I’d recommend anyone who is having a little trouble organizing thoughts and goals on their own to bounce them off of Lisa. She is understanding, caring, and really values the success of her clients!”

Ross reached out in the middle of a good-but-not-great career situation: he was in the flow in his work at Apple, but felt called to share his story and perspective in a bigger way. We talked through how to help him launch his side business doing coaching around personal growth, leadership development, and speaking on how to use perceived limitations like ADHD as your personal superpower:

Ross, Los gatos, Ca

professional speaker

“Hi Lisa,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you did for me this past year. The way you believed in me, helping to fuel my dreams, and always challenging me to take concrete steps to see them become a reality was a game changer.

I want you to know why you’ve had such a significant impact on my life…

One year ago when we crossed paths I didn’t know what was next for me at Apple and my future felt uncertain because I felt stuck and I had no clue what next looked like. Until I mustered the courage to mention my dream to you of becoming a professional speaker — wanting to be one of the best at motivating, encouraging, and bringing hope to others! It was your immediate belief and enthusiasm for this dream that made me take the possibility seriously for the first time. It might have forever changed my life.

Our time together where you would listen to me share, unpack my thoughts, learn from my experiences, and help me to identify next steps was invaluable.

Whether you realized it or not you were a big help protecting and building up my self esteem weekly through your encouragement and your unwavering belief in me.

Each session was like an adrenaline shot of motivation and fuel for me to keep going!

Our sessions were a sanctuary of time for me to reflect and learn more about myself all the while quickly expediting my personal & professional growth, self awareness, and ultimately the direction of my life in ways I could have never imagined!

Your recap notes that you send out after each conversation are a HUGE gift as I’m able to look back on these and remember the incredible breakthrough’s we had together. You can bet I’ll be referencing those often to provide myself helpful direction and needed reflection as I move forward.

I’m more clear today around who I am, what my unique God given talents are, and the specific ways I feel called to add value to our world and people around me because of you so THANK YOU.”

Cassie made a job switch, and was offered a decent compensation package in her new role. However, I knew we could do better, so we put together her negotiation pitch and language, and she landed a 10% pay increase without any stress or struggle:

“When I was preparing to start a new role, Lisa encouraged me to find a skill or area that I could “own,” so whenever someone needed that particular responsibility taken care of, they’d come to me. This really opened my eyes because in my previous role I was the entry-level position and people always went to those above me for requests. Having been in my new role for a few weeks now, I can see that the effort I made starting out to become the go-to person for copy edits and short notice requests has worked. I’ve been able to prove my ability to quickly and efficiently get products out the door. It was thanks to Lisa’s encouragement that I made sure to do this.”

Quinn attended our free online webinar, and she had this to say:

“Thank you! The tools you gave me were very helpful in combining my personal and career visions, as well as pulling me out of the doldrums stage!” – Quinn, Columbus, OH

Rachel in Chicago went from bouncing between a handful of jobs that felt like they didn’t fit to negotiating a full-time job offer doing marketing project management with an easy 12% increase on the initial offer…while also starting an entrepreneurial endeavor, getting her health coaching certification, and creating a longer-term plan to move:

“What a wonderful experience I had throughout Lisa’s career coaching program. She was a dual force – both compassionate and proactive. Truly believe Lisa cared about my wellbeing while also pushing me beyond what I thought was possible. Felt very comfortable expressing my wild and crazy ideas and have support to manifest my desires. We worked collaboratively which felt natural and seamless focusing on the process instead of outcome. My biggest turning point was through Lisa’s wisdom in promoting growth mindset to my life – a true game changer ultimately leading to a bigger capacity and appetite for opportunities. What I learned from Lisa resulted in a process of career exploration, pivoting and better yet, self re-discovery.”

I worked as a career coach under Adrian for two years, and am so honored to share his words about my coaching work:

adrian klaphaak

founder of a path that fits

“It amazes me how Lisa is able to combine big thinking creativity with practical problem solving to help people navigate complex career questions and crossroads. It’s easy to find one or the other but rare to find a coach like Lisa that integrates both the meaningful and the practical, seamlessly. She’s super sharp and will challenge you to bring forth your full potential while being genuinely warm and supportive as you take each step forward – no matter how big or how small.” – Adrian Klaphaak, Founder of A Path That Fits, Inc.

I trained as a career change coach under Scott Barlow for 2 years, and am tickled to share what he says about my capabilities:

scott barlow

founder of happen to your career

“I tell people all the time that Lisa Lewis is one of my favorite people on the planet. Her warm, caring demeanor makes you immediately feel at ease and supported. But there’s more to her than just that. She will tell you where you’re f-ing up — and instead of feeling bad, you’ll like her even more. She will call you out when you’re avoiding your dreams, she will even hold them in front of you and help you find the courage and confidence to pursue them. She does this with such ease and professionalism that you don’t even realize what’s happening. It’s truly something amazing to watch! It was an honor to work with her at Happen To Your Career, and anyone who chooses to work with her should realize they’re getting one of the best career coaches in the world!” – Scott Barlow, Founder of Happen to Your Career

I completed my career change coaching training with Jenny Blake in her trademark philosophy, The Pivot Method. After getting to watch me coach and certify me as an official Pivot Coach, Jenny had this to say:

Jenny Blake

author of pivot

“Lisa’s radiant enthusiasm shines through every interaction, and she genuinely wants all of her clients to shine as brightly as possible in the world. She is a generous listener with a knack for quickly getting to the root of things, all while helping making tremendous progress on the practical, tactical strategy side of planning next steps too. Lisa is thoughtful, kind, whip-smart, intuitive, and insightful—the perfect ingredients for a powerful coach! I can’t recommend working with her highly enough if you’re lucky enough to have the chance.”
